Ask Notama

Ask Notama answers questions using your own notes. Open it with Ctrl+J (Cmd+J on macOS).

Chat

Ask a question in plain language. Notama searches your notes, feeds the relevant passages to the model, and answers with citations back to the notes it used, so you can check the source rather than take the answer on faith.

If the answer is not in your notes, it will say so instead of inventing one. Chat only reads. It never changes a note.

Past conversations are kept, so you can reopen a thread and continue it.

Agent

Agent mode can act, not just answer: search, read, create, update, move, tag, and move notes to the trash.

Every change asks first

Read-only steps run on their own. Anything that would change a note stops and shows you exactly what it is about to do, and waits. Nothing is written until you press approve.

This is deliberate, and it is not a formality:

  • The preview you approve cannot change between being shown and being run. If the note moved on underneath it, the action fails rather than applying to something you did not look at.
  • Rejecting a step ends that run cleanly, with nothing half-applied.
  • If the server restarts mid-run, the run survives and picks up where it was — and an action that was interrupted is failed rather than silently retried, so you never get the same change twice.

The cost is that Agent needs you at the keyboard. That is the right trade for something with permission to delete your notes.

Sessions

Consecutive runs share context, so you can refine a request without repeating yourself. Past sessions stay browsable, and each step can be expanded to see what actually happened.

What leaves your device

Answering a question means sending the relevant excerpts of your notes to the model provider. The provider is named, and what is sent is described, in the privacy policy. You are asked to agree once per account and device before the first request.

If that is not a trade you want to make, do not enable it — every other part of Notama works without it.

Quotas

Chat messages and Agent runs have separate monthly allowances, shown in the panel's footer. They reset monthly. When one runs out, the other keeps working.
