Sync and devices

How sync works

Every app talks to the same account, so a note written on your phone is on your desktop by the time you open it. There is nothing to configure and no folder to choose.

What counts as a device

One signed-in app is one device. The web app, the desktop app, and the mobile app each count separately, even on the same machine. Signing in with a second browser is a second device.

When you hit the limit

Signing in on a third device with a Free account does not fail with a dead end. The sign-in screen shows your current devices and lets you revoke one right there, then signs you in.

You do not need access to the old device to do this, which matters when the reason you are signing in somewhere new is that the old phone is gone.

Signing out a device you no longer have

Account settings lists every signed-in device with when it was last used. Revoke any of them. That device is signed out the next time it tries to reach the server.

If you think someone else has your password, change it: changing the password is what ends every other session at once.

Offline

The apps need a connection to sync. Changes you make while offline are held on that device and sent when it reconnects.
