Sharing a note publicly

Publishing

Turn on sharing for a note and Notama gives you a link. Anyone with the link can read that note in a browser without an account.

What is shared is that one note. Notes nested inside it are not published; each note is shared on its own.

Password protection

A share link can be given a password. Visitors are asked for it before the note is shown.

This is worth using for anything you would mind a stranger reading, because a link without a password is readable by anyone who has it — links get forwarded, pasted into tickets, and end up in browser history.

Attachments in a shared note

Images and files inside a published note are reachable through the share, so the note reads as it should. Files that are not safe to display in a browser are served as downloads rather than rendered, which stops a shared note being used to serve something that pretends to be an image.

Unpublishing

Turn sharing off and the link stops working immediately. Anyone holding it gets nothing.

There is no way to know who opened a link while it was live, so if something sensitive was published by mistake, treat it as having been seen and rotate whatever it exposed.

• Your account, your other notes, or your tags
• Anything in the trash
